Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc 2006 is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon from Pessac-Léognan. Gravelly soils provided the foundation for a wine focused on aromatic height and textural depth. After nearly 20 years, the profile has shifted into a complex phase of lemon curd, beeswax, toasted nuts and white truffle. The palate is broad and voluminous yet remains balanced by a persistent mineral drive and vibrant acidity. Maturation in oak added layers of spice that are now fully integrated with the dense fruit core. It possesses a long, savoury finish that highlights the longevity of Graves whites from this classic vintage.

Another gorgeous white Graves from this vintage, this wine offers up notes of honeysuckle, lanolin, sweet citrus, and hints of orange peel as well as quince and white currants. It is medium to full-bodied, with fresh acidity, subtle nuances of smoky oak, and a long finish. It should drink well for 15 or more years.

Bright yellow. Aromas of apricot, honey and resin. Dense, ripe and serious, with lovely volume and lift to the stone fruit and spice flavors. A very round, mouthcoating wine in which one can taste the 5% semillon component (the wine also contains 90% sauvignon blanc and 5% sauvignon gris). This tastes like lower acidity than the 2007, but there is no shortage of energy.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2008

Organic Winemaking in Pessac-Léognan

Château Smith Haut Lafitte has a long and prestigious history and, since it was acquired by the Cathiard family in 1990, has garnered a reputation as one of the finest producers in Pessac-Léognan. Certified organic since 2019, the estate produces both red and white wines, in addition to a second wine, Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte.

With an estate spanning 80ha, seven red and white grape varieties are planted, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc for reds and Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris for whites. The red wines are generous and juicy, boasting wonderful ageability (and with less oak-dominance from 2010 onwards), whilst the whites offer both superb value and impeccable quality.
