Established in 1994 by winemaker Manfred Krankl and his wife Elaine, Sine Qua Non is a legendary California winery that has achieved cult status among wine connoisseurs worldwide. Known for their incredibly limited production and exceptional quality, Sine Qua Non focuses on Rhône-style blends, primarily using Grenache, Syrah, and other Rhône grape varieties. Next of Kyn VII 2013 is a compelling Syrah-based composition, with Grenache, Petite Syrah, and Roussanne adding depth and complexity to the blend. Expect intriguing aromas of blackberries, blueberries and violets leading to a layered palate of cassis, dark chocolate and smoked meats. The wine is presented here in a fabulous magnum bottle.

The 2013 Next of Kyn - No. 7 Cumulus Vineyard is a real stunner. Rich, explosive and overwhelmingly beautiful, it takes hold of all the senses and never lets go. Even with all of its power and richness, the 2013 retains striking aromatic lift and energy. I would give it another few years to settle down, but it is superb today. This is an extraordinary wine by any measure. Don't miss it. In 2013, the blend is 45% Syrah, 29% Grenache, 15% Petite Sirah, 5% Mourvèdre, 4.5% Touriga Nacional and 1.5% Roussanne, done with 58% whole clusters and aged for 30 months in French oak.Antonio Galloni1st September 2017

Art and Fine Wine Collide

The wines of Sine Qua Non need little introduction. Mould breaking, iconoclastic, visionary are just some of the descriptors invoked when critics and wine lovers discuss this unique winery. Based in Ventura, north of LA, the wines of Sine Qua Non regularly notch up perfect scores from critics while the waiting list for a direct allocation is well over ten years.

Founded by Manfred and Elaine Krankl in the early 1990s, the duo swiftly gained attention from wine lovers and critics for their superb Rhône blend wines, quirky labels and uncompromising approach in the vineyard and cellar. The winery has experimented with producing Oregon Pinot Noir, dessert wines and an array of quirky single varietal reds and whites, but generally revert to producing the wines for which they are most famous - Grenache and Syrah. The wines are generally big and bold, but those who like things cranked up to eleven should look no further than Manfred's "extended barrel ageing" program.
