Established in 1994 by winemaker Manfred Krankl and his wife Elaine, Sine Qua Non is a legendary California winery that has achieved cult status among wine connoisseurs worldwide. The Next of Kyn series is a special project within the winery`s portfolio, focusing on estate-grown wines from the Cumulus Vineyard in Oak View. The VIII edition is a blend composed of 38% Syrah, 33% Grenache, 16% Touriga Nacional, 7% Mourvèdre and 6% Petite Syrah, using 43% whole clusters. Expect notes of vanilla, clove, blackberries, white pepper, dried herbs and dark chocolate.

The 2014 No. 8 Cumulus Vineyard has really blossomed over the last year. Open-knit and quite accessible, the 2014 shows the somewhat linear personality of the vintage off to great effect. A rush of dark red/purplish berry fruit, mocha, new leather, menthol and spice is nicely balanced by the wine's verve and overall sense of vibrancy. This is the best showing of the 2014 yet! Sold in cases of 3 bottles and 1 magnum at the price of $1,270.00 per case.Antonio Galloni1st September 2018

Art and Fine Wine Collide

The wines of Sine Qua Non need little introduction. Mould breaking, iconoclastic, visionary are just some of the descriptors invoked when critics and wine lovers discuss this unique winery. Based in Ventura, north of LA, the wines of Sine Qua Non regularly notch up perfect scores from critics while the waiting list for a direct allocation is well over ten years.

Founded by Manfred and Elaine Krankl in the early 1990s, the duo swiftly gained attention from wine lovers and critics for their superb Rhône blend wines, quirky labels and uncompromising approach in the vineyard and cellar. The winery has experimented with producing Oregon Pinot Noir, dessert wines and an array of quirky single varietal reds and whites, but generally revert to producing the wines for which they are most famous - Grenache and Syrah. The wines are generally big and bold, but those who like things cranked up to eleven should look no further than Manfred's "extended barrel ageing" program.
