Sine Qua Non Inaugural Grenache 2003 presents a notable expression of the Grenache grape variety, derived from 100% estate-grown grapes. Originating from the 11 Confessions Vineyard in Santa Rita Hills, this vintage features a significant Grenache profile, demonstrating age and structure. The wine exhibits a range of aromas, including dried herbs, dark berries and a hint of earthiness. Aged for 38 months in French oak, it showcases integration and depth. Sine Qua Non is known for its minimal intervention approach, allowing the terroir to speak through the wine. Bottled with a damaged capsule.
96 Vinous
(includes 10% syrah) Bright ruby. Explosively aromatic bouquet shows an exotic array of red and dark fruits, Asian spices, incense, fresh flowers and minerals; smells like a head shop. Graceful strawberry and raspberry flavors are remarkably pure and fresh, offering a jaw-dropping combination of concentration and vivacity, and picking up anise, candied rose and baking spices with air. Clings to the palate yet seems almost weightless, finishing with amazing clarity and persistence. Really remarkable wine.Josh Raynolds1st November 2007

Art and Fine Wine Collide

The wines of Sine Qua Non need little introduction. Mould breaking, iconoclastic, visionary are just some of the descriptors invoked when critics and wine lovers discuss this unique winery. Based in Ventura, north of LA, the wines of Sine Qua Non regularly notch up perfect scores from critics while the waiting list for a direct allocation is well over ten years.

Founded by Manfred and Elaine Krankl in the early 1990s, the duo swiftly gained attention from wine lovers and critics for their superb Rhône blend wines, quirky labels and uncompromising approach in the vineyard and cellar. The winery has experimented with producing Oregon Pinot Noir, dessert wines and an array of quirky single varietal reds and whites, but generally revert to producing the wines for which they are most famous - Grenache and Syrah. The wines are generally big and bold, but those who like things cranked up to eleven should look no further than Manfred's "extended barrel ageing" program.
