Sine Qua Non is the creation of innovative winemaker, Manfred Krankl, and is a world-famous cult winery revered for producing miniscule quantities of unique Rhône Valley-inspired wines from some of the greatest vineyards across the Central Coast.

From the superb 2007 vintage, Body & Soul is a 475-case blend of 71% Roussanne and 29% Viognier sourced primarily from the Krankl-owned Eleven Confessions Vineyard (with a little from Bien Nacido) and aged in French oak, of which around 1/3 was new. His white wines are renowned for ageing incredibly well thanks to their seamless balance and remarkable natural complexity.

94 Vinous
(71% roussanne and 29% viognier) Vivid gold color. More energetic than the previous wine, with zesty aromas of Meyer lemon, pear skin and grapefruit pith complemented by deeper notes of peach pit and yellow rose. Juicy and finely etched, with the palate displaying sweet orchard and pit fruit flavors and a strong note of grapefruit pith. Strikingly pure, lively and incisive on the finish, which clings with excellent juicy persistence.Josh Raynolds1st November 2009

Art and Fine Wine Collide

The wines of Sine Qua Non need little introduction. Mould breaking, iconoclastic, visionary are just some of the descriptors invoked when critics and wine lovers discuss this unique winery. Based in Ventura, north of LA, the wines of Sine Qua Non regularly notch up perfect scores from critics while the waiting list for a direct allocation is well over ten years.

Founded by Manfred and Elaine Krankl in the early 1990s, the duo swiftly gained attention from wine lovers and critics for their superb Rhône blend wines, quirky labels and uncompromising approach in the vineyard and cellar. The winery has experimented with producing Oregon Pinot Noir, dessert wines and an array of quirky single varietal reds and whites, but generally revert to producing the wines for which they are most famous - Grenache and Syrah. The wines are generally big and bold, but those who like things cranked up to eleven should look no further than Manfred's "extended barrel ageing" program.
