A classic expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2004 Silver Oak Alexander Valley embodies the winery’s signature style, shaped by its exclusive use of American oak ageing. The nose is immediately inviting, with notes of cedar, ripe strawberry, blackberry, and a touch of leather, underscored by the characteristic vanilla and coconut tones from the oak. On the palate, it offers a lush, fruit-driven entry, supported by a vibrant core of red and black fruit, balanced acidity, and supple tannins. The finish lingers with sweet red berries and warm spice, maintaining the wine’s approachable yet structured profile.

Founded in 1972 by Ray Duncan and Justin Meyer, Silver Oak has built its reputation on crafting age-worthy, oak-kissed Cabernets that continue to define a distinct Californian identity.

Good deep red. Redcurrant, tobacco and fresh herbs on the nose, along with pepper and pungent American oak scents (50% new). Supple on entry, then a bit dry and leafy in the middle, with a green streak partly hidden by exotic oak. Finishes with rather dry tannins. Not my style. The strong peppery pyrazine character is no doubt largely due to the very uneven bloom in 2004.
