The origins of Château Rauzan-Ségla can be traced back to the late 17th century when Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan established the vineyard. Today, Château Rauzan-Ségla is under the ownership of the Chanel group, known for its commitment to luxury and craftsmanship. With their meticulous attention to detail and respect for tradition, Chanel has elevated the estate to even greater heights, reaffirming its position among the top producers in Bordeaux. This release is the 2009 vintage of its second wine, Ségla. The nose captivates with alluring aromas of blackberry, raspberry, cedar, and hints of orange peel. On the palate, this wine reveals a medium-bodied structure, characterized by supple tannins and a precise thread of acidity.

The 2009 Ségla under cork has a very enticing blackberry, raspberry, cedar and orange rind scented bouquet that opens nicely in the glass, gathering momentum with every swirl. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity. Quite dense and structured with a judicious dash of spice towards the classy and persistent finish. This is very impressive and incidentally shows much better than another bottle sealed under Screwcap. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

A Margaux Super Second

Setting the bar for quality winemaking in Margaux, the vineyards of Château Rauzan-Ségla are planted to 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 1% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and are used to produce both the prestigious first wine and the second wine, known as Ségla.

These are wonderfully elegant, vibrant reds that see 60-70% new oak. Considered by many to be one of the greatest properties in Margaux, Rauzan-Ségla is now firmly established as one of Bordeaux`s ‘Super Seconds’.
