The 2015 Saxum James Berry Vineyard is a red blend predominantly composed of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, with small percentages of Counoise and Roussanne. The James Berry Vineyard, from which the wine takes its name, is situated in the Willow Creek District of Paso Robles. This vineyard is known for its calcareous, rocky soils and cooling marine influence, which contribute to the wine`s distinct character. The 2015 vintage offers a rich nose of black raspberries, blueberries, and black cherries, interwoven with hints of crushed violets, white pepper, and gentle minerality. On the palate, this full-bodied wine presents a harmonious interplay of concentrated fruit flavours, refined tannins and lively acidity. Available here in a fabulous magnum format.
Glass-staining ruby. Heady aromas of mineral-tinged dark berry liqueur, incense and roasted coffee, with a suave floral nuance adding brightness. Smoky, appealingly sweet and focused, offering palate-staining black and blue fruit and candied licorice flavors that are braced by juicy acidity and a late flourish of five-spice powder. Closes with outstanding clarity and floral-dominated persistence, leaving suave floral pastille and spicecake notes behind, eventually. Josh Raynolds1st November 2017

Bold Wines from Paso Robles
Founded in 2002, Saxum Vineyards has swiftly risen to become one of California's most respected producers of Grenache, Syrah and Mataro-based wines. Justin and Heather Smith started the winery vinifying fruit from a vineyard planted by Justin's father - James Berry Smith.
The focus is on Rhône Valley inspired blends from the Willow Creek District of Paso Robles. In the vineyard, the team aim for low yields and optimum ripeness while the cellar team exercise minimal intervention to preserve the purity of the fruit. Saxum use no chemical fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides and production is kept at around 8,000 cases per year across ten different wines. The flagship wine is the James Berry Vineyard Syrah, which regularly collects perfect scores from critics. These are big, bold, concentrated wines - inky and full with ripe fruit flavours overflowing from the glass.
