Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2008 is a full-bodied Supertuscan red wine produced in the Bolgheri sub-region of Tuscany, central Italy. `Tenuta San Guido`s Sassicaia is one of the world`s most iconic Cabernet Sauvignons, produced from organically farmed vineyards close to the Tuscan coast in Bolgheri. The 2008 was in effect an inter-regnum wine – the last vintage made by Giacomo Tachis was 2007 and incoming oenologist Graziana Grassini asserted that 2009 was her first vintage. "This is the best young Sassicaia in years. It`s the new 1988, which was great, and sometimes better than the legendary 1985. What incredible aromas here with blueberries, spices, licoricey, plums. Graphite too. Subtle and complex. Full and silky with a beautiful texture of fine tannins and an ultra-fine finish. So beautiful now but will be much better in 2015. The 2008 is a decidedly buttoned-up, firm Sassicaia that is currently holding back much of its potential, unlike the 2006 and 2007, both of which were far more obvious wines. Readers who can afford to wait will be treated to a sublime wine once this settles down in bottle. Muscular, firm tannins frame the exquisite finish in this dark, implosive Sassicaia. The Original Super Tuscan
Tenuta San Guido’s flagship red wine, Sassicaia wine, has become a Tuscan icon in its own right. This fine wine, made from a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, is characterized by all the hallmarks that have established it as one of Italy’s standout wines: sumptuous fruit, fine texture, beautiful perfume, and effortless balance. Early vintages of this iconic Italian wine were only available to taste at the winery. Early vintages received mixed reviews, but the introduction of Tronçais oak barriques in the late 1970s saw a rise in quality that has been maintained ever since. Alongside the Grand Vin, the Tenuta San Guido estate produces a second wine, Guidalberto, and a third wine, La Difese.
