`Domaine François Cotat Sancerre Les Culs de Beaujeu 2020 is a full-bodied Sauvignon Blanc from the Sancerre appellation of the Loire Valley. Francois Cotat produces rich, complex and ageworthy Sancerres which are highly sought-after by aficionados. He tends just under one acre of vines in the Culs de Beaujeu vineyard, which is cultivated on soil of Kimmeridgian limestone and clay. A higher than usual proportion of clay on this steep slope on the western end Chavignol yields the ripest of Cotat Sancerres.

From the steep slopes of the Cul de Beaujeu, this is a very fine and rather delicate expression. While initially succulent, it remains light in body and has a sense of quietness while maintaining line and structure. You can expect wild flowers, red apples, nettles and elderflower. Hell, there's even an apricotty character before the salty finish kicks in and a lightly chalky texture resides on the palate. Rebecca Gibb30th August 2022
