The Cotat family has been involved in winemaking for generations, and François Cotat`s style is often described as being more reminiscent of older-school Sancerre winemaking. Their top vineyards include Monts Damnés, Les Caillot, La Grande Côte, and Les Culs de Beaujeu, where this release comes from. The 2019 vintage is fully ripe, boasting a white pear and green apple profile. A polished and seamless expression, with a cool minerality and floral undertones.

An idiosyncratic, intriguing wine that is about as far from standard Sancerre as you'll get, and for that, Cotat will be relieved. The 2019 Sancerre Culs de Beaujeu has great concentration, and the gentle handling translates into delicacy of fruit. However, it’s far from a fruity wine; you'll find floral notes, an iodine-like character and nutty nuances (old barrels, including large formats, are preferred). It retains a sense of freshness and an almost briny essence on the long finish. Rebecca Gibb1st August 2021
