Ruinart Rosé Brut NV is a subtle and refined blend of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay. The nose is evocative with red cherry, raspberry and berry fruit aromas. The palate is lively and fresh but silky and round.

(55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay; 9 g/l dosage; LAH9V): Light orange. Sharply focused red berry and tangerine scents are complicated by suggestions of allspice and cinnamon, with a hint of smokiness in the background. Sappy and minerally on the palate, offering fresh strawberry and blood orange flavors lifted by juicy acidity. Packs a serious punch but carries no excess weight and finishes stony and very long, with echoing red berry character.Josh Raynolds1st January 2015

Ruinart’s NV Brut Rose lot LAHLFA9HB—just over half of which is Pinot, and close to 20% of which constituted red wine—offers almost kir-like scents (I beg that this not be taken as derogatory!) of fresh apple infused with framboise liqueur. A tang of fresh (and, naturally, prominently seedy) pomegranate and a bittersweet twist of orange rind lend vivacity and invigoration while helping balance the wine’s roughly nine grams of residual sugar, leading to a finish of delightful and unabashed fruitiness allied to subtle sweetness. Amusingly, here is both a relatively rare instance of the premium that is asked by a famous Grand Marque for rose being modest, as well as of its being qualitatively justified. Enjoy this one over the coming year. - David Schildknecht

Pale salmon. Intense nose. Flirtatious. Not the driest and pretty chewy on the end. Fruit seems a bit heavily squeezed. (JR)

Ruinart

One of Champagne's Oldest

Founded in Reims in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart (the nephew of legendary Benedictine monk Dom Ruinart), Ruinart is one of the oldest champagne houses in France. The Ruinart style is characterised by its supreme elegance and finesse. A key cuvée is the Ruinart Blanc de Blancs - the house’s signature champagne - made using 100% Chardonnay grapes from vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims.

The Chardonnay variety is at the heart of all of the house's cuvees, including the Ruinart Rosé Brut, which is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, mostly sourced from Premier Cru vineyards, in addition to the Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs and the Ruinart Brut.
