Ruinart was founded in 1729 by Dom Ruinart’s nephew Nicolas in 1729 and it is one of the oldest champagne houses in France. On the nose, Ruinart Brut NV is delicate and fruity, with pronounced aromas of fresh pears, hazelnuts and almonds, followed by hints of white flower, pastry and buttered brioche. On the palate, it is fresh and rounded, marked by a crystal-clear minerality and long finish.

Dom Ruinart’s NV Brut is an attractive light-weight wine laced with citrus, lemon peel and flowers, all which come together in a delicate, feminine style best suited to near-term drinking. The straight NV is rarely exiting here. This is Lot AES4AB. Anticipated maturity. 2010-2013.

Extremely characterful. Mineral, with some vegetal density on the nose. Extremely lively and fresh on the nose but with real substance on the palate too – presumably thanks to the 2000 vintage on which this blend is based. Extremely satisfying, this wine addresses the entire palate. Quite long and complex. I remember when this wine was a bargain but the recommended retail price today is £27-28 although there are sometimes special deals. (JR)

Ruinart

One of Champagne's Oldest

Founded in Reims in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart (the nephew of legendary Benedictine monk Dom Ruinart), Ruinart is one of the oldest champagne houses in France. The Ruinart style is characterised by its supreme elegance and finesse. A key cuvée is the Ruinart Blanc de Blancs - the house’s signature champagne - made using 100% Chardonnay grapes from vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims.

The Chardonnay variety is at the heart of all of the house's cuvees, including the Ruinart Rosé Brut, which is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, mostly sourced from Premier Cru vineyards, in addition to the Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs and the Ruinart Brut.
