Domaine Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Windsbuhl 2008 is a mature-vintage, off-dry white wine from the Alsace region of France. Although not a Grand Cru vineyard site, Clos Windsbuhl is frequently grouped with the Alsatian Grands Crus. Managed by the Olivier Zind-Humbrecht MW, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht produces wines of depth, precision and profound ageability from typical Alsatian grape varieties. The estate has been certified biodynamic since 2002. "Another virtually-dry member of its collection (at only 12.7% alcohol), Olivier Humbrecht says he had hoped that his 2008 Riesling Clos Windsbuhl – from some of his latest-picked grapes - would finish even drier than nine grams but, like me, he loves the wine`s balance now. I am reminded of 1996 by the nose of gooseberry, fresh white peach, citrus oils, and white truffle. A correspondingly prickly brightness on the palate is offset not only by the residual sugar but also by a silken texture and formidable sense of sheer stuffing. A strikingly persistent, bittersweet finish brings into play copious salt and chalk for a palpably extract rich and saliva-inducing finish. This should be worth following for at least two decades." Wine Advocate, 2011
(12.7% alcohol, 9 g/l r.s. and 8 g/l acidity; this spent 18 months on its lees without a racking) Bright yellow-gold. Aromas and flavors of mirabelle, quinine, powdered stone, minerals and medicinal herbs. Strong but harmonious acidity gives this very rich, slightly exotic off-dry wine a lovely sugar/acid balance. The slow fermentation no doubt contributed to the wine's tactile mouth feel. Rich, suave and very ripe wine, with a long, dusty finish. A superb showing today.
