Ridge Lytton Estate Petite Sirah 2018 showcases grapes sourced predominantly from the clay-rich soils of Lytton West, where the Petite Sirah grape variety flourishes. This wine is crafted from fully destemmed whole berries, a method aimed at managing tannins while emphasising fruit characteristics. The 2018 vintage reflects the vineyard`s heritage, with vines dating back to 1901. Ridge Vineyards has a history of producing wine since 1972, with this variety being bottled separately since 2002. It demonstrates full-bodied structure and is expected to develop further complexity over the next 10-15 years.

The 2018 Lytton Estate Petite Sirah is totally stunning. Bright, focused and powerful, the 2018 presents a breathtaking interplay of rich Petite fruit allied to a classic, old-school sense of structure. Dark blue/purplish fruit, leather, licorice, lavender, menthol and gravel are some of the many notes that infuse the 2018 with all those layers of flavor. The 2018 is a real stunner.Antonio Galloni20th September 2020

Mountain Wines of Distinction

Named after the historic vineyard area of Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains has been a byword for fine Californian wine since the early 1960s. Ridge shot to fame in the fabled 1976 Judgement of Paris. It was at this groundbreaking blind tasting that the 1971 Ridge Monte Bello was pitted against some of the most revered First Growths of Bordeaux. It placed fifth. (NB: in a re-enactment of the same tasting held in 2006, Monte Bello 1971 placed first.)

Under legendary winemaker Paul Draper, Ridge Vineyards became renowned for the exceptional quality of its single-vineyard wines. Though Draper has now retired, the estate continues to produce terroir-focused wines with the same commitment to organic farming and traditional winemaking techniques. From the fine Bordeaux blends and Chardonnays of Monte Bello to the Zinfandels of Lytton Springs and Geyserville in Sonoma, and all points in between, Ridge Vineyards remains one of the most celebrated names in California wine.
