Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the iconic Burgundy estate that produces some of the most exclusive and sought-after wines in the world. The estate is co-owned by two families, the de Villaine and the Leroy, with Alexandre Bernier in place as cellar master following the retirement of Bernard Noblet in 2018. DRC only produces grand cru wines, including this Richebourg, made from a 3.51-hectare parcel. This is a rare magnum bottle of the 2001 vintage, a very good year for Burgundy overall. The nose bursts with summer berries and cherries, complemented by baking spices and black tea leaves. The palate is rich and concentrated, but weightless at the same time.

Vinous
In its youth, the 2001 was incredibly austere for years. Now, the fruit is starting to fade, while whole cluster inflections and potent tannins dominate. Maybe I have had bad luck. I will hold up hope of encountering a better example at some point in the future. This bottle is good, but it does not meet our expectations.Antonio Galloni1st October 2021
