Château Raymond Lafon`s 2009 Sauternes is primarily made from Sémillon, with a smaller percentage of Sauvignon Blanc. The wine displays intense aromas and flavours of honey, dried apricots, candied orange peel, and tropical fruits, along with notes of almonds, saffron, and vanilla. It has a luscious texture, balanced by bright acidity, which keeps the sweetness in check and provides a long, elegant finish. Given its age, the 2009 vintage should be drinking well now, but it also has the potential to age and develop further complexity for several more years.

The 2009 Raymond-Lafon has a bouquet that is entering full maturity with honeysuckle, quince and light waxy aromas. There's good intensity here, perhaps more than the 2010 at the moment. The palate is vibrant on the entry with plenty of botrytised fruit and a keen line of acidity, spicier than the 2010 with a harmonious, marmalade- and quince-infused finish. Almost Tokaji-like, this is a superb Sauternes. Neal Martin25th March 2025
