The 2004 vintage of Château Rauzan-Ségla is a blend composed of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot, matured for 18 months in French oak, with 50% being new barrels. The Merlot is contributing a chocolatey richness, adding depth and plenty of flavour, while the ageing Cabernet brings forth a mature character, lending structural support.

Vinous
The 2004 Rauzan-Ségla was picked September 30 to October 15. It has a deep garnet core with just the first signs of maturation on the rim. The nose is beginning to open up and welcome secondary aromas: hints of warm gravel and sandalwood infuse the black fruits that are very expressive considering the vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. Like many 2004s, this Margaux cannot escape the feeling of conservatism that seems to be the leitmotif of this growing season. Yet it retains fine balance, fresh in the mouth with hints of brine and spice towards the structured, ever so slightly austere finish. Tasted at the Rauzan-Ségla vertical at the château. A Margaux Super Second
Setting the bar for quality winemaking in Margaux, the vineyards of Château Rauzan-Ségla are planted to 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 1% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and are used to produce both the prestigious first wine and the second wine, known as Ségla.
These are wonderfully elegant, vibrant reds that see 60-70% new oak. Considered by many to be one of the greatest properties in Margaux, Rauzan-Ségla is now firmly established as one of Bordeaux`s ‘Super Seconds’.
