Situated in Margaux, second growth Château Rauzan-Gassies has belonged to the Quié family (owners of Château Croizet- Bages) since 1946. The 2009 is composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot and offers up a black fruited bouquet together with supple tannins and fine acidity.
91 Robert Parker
A masculine-styled, dense purple-colored 2009, this cuvee offers up scents of charcoal, asphalt, black currants, incense, and crushed rocks. This deep, medium to full-bodied, well-made Margaux is broader, richer, and more substantial than usual, with more alcohol as well as substance. The tannins are ripe and well-integrated. This is a 30-year wine. (Tasted two times.) - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

The 2009 Rauzan-Gassies has a refined bouquet with blackberry, cedar and light graphite notes, maybe a little closed down though, it opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, and fine acidity. Chewy with plenty of blackberry and bilberry fruit laced with sea salt and brine towards the finish. Give it another coupe of years. Not amazing, but certainly one of the best recent vintages that I have encountered. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. Neal Martin1st March 2019
