Domaine Leflaive is one of the leading wine producers in Puligny-Montrachet, focusing almost entirely on white wines made from Chardonnay. Leflaive has currently 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premier Cru sites and no fewer than 5 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards. This cuvée comes from ‘Les Pucelles’, where the Domaine owns three biodynamically farmed parcels. The 2000 vintage in Burgundy was generally considered to be a very good one for Chardonnay-based white wines. The growing season in 2000 was characterized by favourable weather conditions, including a warm and dry summer, which allowed the grapes to ripen steadily and evenly.

Sweet, oily aromas of peach, pear and spices, with a distinct suggestion of more exotic fruits. Steely, brisk and pure, with lovely intensity and cut. Boasts excellent acidity for 2000. This really dances on the palate. Finishes vibrant, firm-edged and long. A superb premier cru.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2002

The 2000 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles put in an excellent showing, demonstrating that the millennial vintage produced some fine, perhaps overlooked white Burgundies. The nose is quintessential Anne-Claude Leflaive: smoke, gunflint and a slight reductive note. The palate displays impressive weight and cohesion for a 2000 with brisk lime and citrus notes. The precision is maintained from start to finish that feels long and satisfying. Probably à point, this Puligny-Montrachet comes highly recommended. Tasted June 2016.Neal Martin28th October 2016

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
