The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières in magnum by Domaine Leflaive is a Premier Cru Puligny Chardonnay reflecting a warm vintage. It presents an aromatic profile featuring ripe yellow fruits, subtle toasted nuts and delicate hints of spice. The palate is full-bodied and well-structured, emphasising concentration alongside a notably long finish. Domaine Leflaive is renowned for its biodynamic practices and has cultivated a 1.26-hectare plot in the Premier Cru Les Folatières, which benefits from clay-limestone soils that enhance its longevity and characteristic finesse, particularly in the magnum format.

Bright yellow. Lovely floral lift to the soft citrus and vanilla aromas. Plenty of fruit here too, but this shows better grip and lift than the Clavoillons, more life in the mouth. At once lush and energetic, and firm and long on the aftertaste. Less obviously 2009 in style.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2011

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
