Based in Dezize-lès-Maranges, Bachelet-Monnot is a relatively new Domaine in Burgundy, only formed in 2005. It was established by two brothers, Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, who cultivate both family-owned and leased vineyards, covering a total of 20 appellations. This particular release comes from the Premier Cru ‘Les Folatières’, which occupies a gentle slope with a southeast to east orientation, allowing for good sun exposure. The summer of 2007 was cooler and wetter than average, which led to a longer growing season and slower ripening of the grapes. As a result, the white wines from this vintage tend to display crisp acidity, lively fruit flavours, and a good level of freshness.

Pale yellow with a green cast. Very pure, high-pitched aromas of lemon cream, lime skin, white flowers and powdered stone. Then saline and uncompromisingly dry on the palate, showing less power and opulence but more class than the Referts. The wine's rocky element gives the fruit a distinctly fresh, vibrant character. Finishes long and perfumed, with noteworthy finesse. Still an infant, but a highly promising premier cru.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2009

Floral nose. Racy and lively – very delicate with lots of finesse. Chalky finish. Electric energy but very youthful. (JR)Jancis Robinson26th May 2009

The focus is on traditional techniques, terroir-led winemaking - 50% new oak is used for Grand Cru wines, but employed to a lesser extent for Premier Cru and Village-level wines.

Key vineyards for Bachelet Monnot in Maranges are La Fussière, which they produce in both red and white, and Clos de la Boutière. In Puligny-Montrachet, Marc and Alexandre produce Premier Crus Les Referts and Folatières along with Grand Crus Bienvenues-Bâtard Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet.
