This 1996 Puligny-Montrachet Les Ensegnières is pitted against the 1999, and though it is an excellent white Burgundy, it is not in the same class. Powerful and almost feral on the nose, it feels slightly honeyed - maybe a touch of botrytis in the vineyard that year? The palate is not as tensile and steely as the 1999, although I do like the dab of ginger on the grippy finish. Drink soon. Neal Martin1st August 2021

The World's Greatest Chardonnay?

Top Burgundy producer Domaine Coche-Dury was founded in 1973 by Jean-François Coche. Now under the stewardship of son, Raphaël, the Coches farm nearly 9 hectares of vineyards across six communes: Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Auxey-Duresses, Monthelie and Volnay.

The Domaine is celebrated for its superb and highly acclaimed Chardonnay including Meursault Perrières, Meursault Les Chevalières, Corton Charlemagne and Puligny Montrachet Les Enseignères. With tiny yields and meticulous wine making, the Coche-Dury name is truly iconic on the Burgundy stage.
