The 2007 Puligny-Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive is a mature Chardonnay from this esteemed Burgundy appellation. This wine reveals notes of white flowers, buttered apple and citrus, underpinned by a subtle chalky minerality. The wine often reflects a vibrant acidity, contributing to a structured palate and a lengthy finish. Known for its commitment to biodiversity and sustainable practices, Domaine Leflaive has garnered recognition for its meticulous viticulture, owning 4.64 hectares within the Puligny-Montrachet village, across seven distinct climats.

Pale yellow. Aromatic nose offers peach, vanilla and toast. Gentle and sweet in the middle palate but with sound acidity underneath. Tightens up on the back end, finishing with very good mineral persistence. This may ultimately merit an outstanding rating. (Incidentally, the estate's Bourgogne, which I tasted from cuve, showed uncommon size and aromatic complexity for its appellation.)Stephen Tanzer1st September 2009

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
