The 2004 Puligny-Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive is a Chardonnay that typifies the appellation’s characteristics. This vintage often reveals notes of white flowers, citrus zest and green apple, accompanied by a notable minerality reminiscent of the region`s limestone soils. The wine is marked by its defined acidity, leading to a refreshing yet structured finish. Domaine Leflaive, a key figure in Burgundy, has a long history of producing Puligny-Montrachet wines, operating approximately 4.64 hectares across seven distinct climats.

(tasted from cuve Green-tinged color. Limey aroma is a bit dulled today. Offers good texture and a suggestion of candied fruits but comes across as somewhat reduced in its current form. Firm lemony acidity buffers the impression of richness. This seems more ample than the '05, but then this sample is just one cuvee out of eight.

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
