Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Champs Gain from Vougeraie was showing a bit of vanilla-laced new oak on the nose, scents of frangipane and orange blossom emerging with time—pretty if not intellectual. The palate is balanced with a pleasant orange rind and tangerine entry, well-judged acidity if very straightforward and, like other 2014s from this vineyard, missing some mineralité on the finish. I would have expected just a bit more nerve here.Neal Martin31st October 2017

Domaine de la Vougeraie

Top Flight Biodynamic Burgundy

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
