Prieuré Lichine 2009 presents a deep ruby color, typical of a well-structured Bordeaux. On the nose, it reveals a bouquet of ripe black fruits, such as blackberry and plum, complemented by notes of cedar and a hint of vanilla from aging in oak barrels. The palate is marked by a medium to full body, with well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity, allowing the fruit flavors to shine through alongside earthy undertones.

This vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and smaller proportions of other varietals, showcasing the terroir of the Margaux appellation. The wine has undergone aging in oak barrels for approximately 14 months, which enhances its complexity and depth. With an impressive aging potential, it can evolve beautifully over the next decade, offering an intriguing exploration of its characteristics as the years pass.

The 2009 Prieuré-Lichine was one of the pleasant surprises of this blind tasting, a Margaux that has improved in recent years. It has a superb, very Pauillac bouquet with graphite infused black fruit that is very well defined and neatly integrated with the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, very well balanced with quite saline and very persistent finish. Superb. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.
