Château Poujeaux is set upon the magnificent gravel slopes of Grand-Poujeaux, a single unbroken parcel of land to the North-East of Moulis. The millennium vintage from Château Poujeaux is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), Merlot (40%), Petit Verdot (6%) and Cabernet Franc (3%). The roundness and charm of Merlot is counterbalanced by the tension and energy of Cabernet Sauvignon. Petit Verdot, despite making up a small proportion of the blend, brings powerful structure and a rich aromatic palate, whilst Cabernet Franc offers added complexity.
88 Robert Parker
A serious red, as one has come to expect from this impeccably run estate, the 2000 Poujeaux exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, a sweet nose of black currants, minerals, and earth, excellent texture, impressive purity, and a long, concentrated, moderately tannic finish. Anticipated maturity. 2005-2016+. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
88 Vinous
Deep medium ruby. Black cherry, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate on the nose. Intensely flavored and rather sinewy, with firm acids framing the fruit. Quite backward and firmly tannic, but has the material and structure to age nicely. Finishes with a note of espresso. This chateau has been making consistently strong wine in recent years.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2001
