The 2008 Pommard Les Rugiens Bas de Montille is a Premier Cru red Burgundy made solely from Pinot Noir. The wine is sourced from the Les Rugiens Bas vineyard in Pommard, which is renowned for its minerally rich soils. The domaine has substantial holdings of around 0.86 hectares in this site. The wine showcases aromas of red berries, earthy undertones and a hint of spice. On tasting, it presents a structured profile with ripe tannins and refreshing acidity, revealing dark cherry and subtle herbal notes.
93 Vinous
Medium red. Closed but pure nose hints at redcurrant, minerals, iron, smoke, leather and cocoa. Surprisingly sweet but holding back plenty in reserve. Very spicy and aromatic in the mouth, with excellent detail to the fruit, leather and mineral flavors. Finishes with lovely breadth and rising length. This baby needs air, or time in the cellar.
17.5 Jancis Robinson
Baked cherry and exquisite rosehip flavours giving floral notes but in a savoury, bitter herbal character. A bit of juniper on the finish. Still very much a dense, youthful style – the signature of Pommard, perhaps. Robust yet defined – and impressively perfumed. (RH)
