Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 2002 is a vintage, prestige-cuvée Champagne produced by Pol Roger in Epernay, France. The 2002 is available here in celebratory magnum format. The relationship between Pol Roger and Sir Winston Churchill was struck up following the liberation of Paris in 1944, an occasion commemorated with the serving of Pol Roger 1924 and at which Churchill first met Odette Pol Roger. The pair became lifelong friends and Churchill a lifelong admirer of Pol Roger Champagnes, going so far as to declare 44 Avenue de Champagne (the home of Champagne Pol Roger) “the most drinkable address in the world”. Cuvée Winston Churchill is composed exclusively of grapes sourced from Grand Cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards and is only made in the very best vintages. It is always released later than the other Pol Roger vintage-dated Champagnes, acknowledging Churchill’s appreciation for older wines. On the 2002. "With its gold colour and mature, toasty flavours, this is possibly the greatest Winston Churchill ever. It has weight and richness, with a dense, full and rich texture. It’s in perfect balance, bringing together maturity and crisper apple and green plum fruit flavours that are cut with lemon. A mineral edge gives a nervy character that will allow this magnificent wine to age further." Wine Enthusiast, 2015

The 2002 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill Vinothèque is such a classic wine for the vintage. Explosive and opulent to the core, the 2022 is seriously impressive. Baked apple tart, chamomile, acacia honey, hazelnut, coffee and orange confit stain the palate. Plush, generous contours wrap it all together in style. This is what 2002 is all about. Named after the founder, Pol Roger was the son of a lawyer who started his career as a wine wholesaler. The house he founded and the Champagnes he produced went on to receive the imperial and royal warrants of the Austro-Hungarian court. Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill was launched in 1984 as the house's Prestige cuvée. Created in homage to Sir Winston Churchill, a lifelong lover of the Champagne House, the cuvée's style emulates the qualities that he preferred - robustness, a full-bodied character and relative maturity.
