This 2012 Sir Winston Churchill prestige cuvée is the 19th release since the inaugural vintage of 1975. The exact blend is a closely guarded family secret but it’s likely to be a Pinot Noir dominant wine. The nose shows tropical fruits, such as pineapples, and a rich lemon sherbet. On the palate, there are hints of grapefruits, raspberries and creamy pastry with a zesty flavour. It finishes on a refreshing, chalky-mineral note.

Pol Roger"s flagship Brut Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is fabulous in 2012. Rich, open-knit and seductive, the 2012 will drink well right out of the gate, although it certainly has the pedigree to age well for decades. Lemon confit, chamomile, dried flowers, mint, spice and a kick of brioche infuse the 2012 with notable textural richness and resonance. Time in the glass brings out gorgeous aromatic lift to round things out. The 2012 is classy and polished all the way. — Antonio Galloni, 1st November 2021

Richer and fleshier than the 2013, the 2012 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill offers up aromas of ripe citrus and orchard fruits mingled with buttered toast, hazelnuts and confit peach. Full-bodied, layered and gourmand, with an enveloping core of fruit, excellent depth at the core and a pretty pinpoint mousse, it remains harmonious and precise despite its broader-shouldered format. — William Kelley, 9th March 2023

Magnum. More caramel and toffee than the 2013, with green apple and a bit of fresh-cut herb. Powerful and full, with great length and volume – yet despite that intensity, there is plentiful tone of voice. Perhaps less saline than the 2013, but with more candied character and definitely more persistent. (RH) — Richard Hemming, 19th November 2022

Founded in Épernay in 1849, this celebrated family run Champagne house has vineyards spanning 92 hectares that are situated in prime sites in the Vallée d'Épernay, the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. Named after the founder, Pol Roger was the son of a lawyer who started his career as a wine wholesaler. The house he founded and the Champagnes he produced went on to receive the imperial and royal warrants of the Austro-Hungarian court. Today, Pol Roger is one of just a few Champagne houses to have been awarded the

Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill was launched in 1984 as the house's Prestige cuvée. Created in homage to Sir Winston Churchill, a lifelong lover of the Champagne House, the cuvée's style emulates the qualities that he preferred - robustness, a full-bodied character and relative maturity.
