Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 1999 is a prestige cuvée vintage Champagne from the house of Pol Roger in Épernay. Established in 1849, Pol Roger remains family-owned and proudly independent to this day. The first ‘Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill’ was from the 1975 vintage and was released in 1984, with the launch taking place at Blenheim Palace. The exact blend is a closely guarded secret, but it is undeniable that the composition would meet the approval of the man to whom it is dedicated. "The first vintage of chef de cave Dominique Petit, the 1999 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is an especially rich, generous rendition of this bottling. Revealing aromas of buttered toast, sweet stone fruits, orange confit, iodine and pastry cream, it`s full-bodied, fleshy and gourmand, with a broad attack and a layered core of sweet fruit, concluding with a long, saline finish. This, too, is drinking at its peak today, and once again there`s no reason to delay gratification." Wine Advocate, 2023
The 1999 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill Vinothèque is a powerful, vibrant Champagne that has aged impeccably. Lemon confit, marzipan, dried flowers, mint, spice and chamomile abound. Time in the glass releases gorgeous inner sweetness, while a touch of reduction adds freshness and vibrancy to balance things out. The 1999 has been exceptional in two recent tasting. The style is one more of linear intensity as opposed to the decidedly headier, more exotic 1998. Antonio Galloni26th March 2024
