Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 1995 is a prestige cuvée vintage Champagne from the house of Pol Roger. The relationship between Pol Roger and Sir Winston Churchill was struck up following the liberation of Paris in 1944, an occasion commemorated with the serving of Pol Roger 1924 and at which Churchill first met Odette Pol Roger. The pair became lifelong friends and Churchill a lifelong admirer of Pol Roger Champagnes, going so far as to declare 44 Avenue de Champagne (the home of Champagne Pol Roger) “the most drinkable address in the world”. Cuvée Winston Churchill is composed exclusively of grapes sourced from Grand Cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards and is only made in the very best vintages. It is always released later than the other Pol Roger vintage-dated Champagnes, acknowledging Churchill’s appreciation for older wines. "First tasted in Mar-05. A wonderful, fragrant nose. minerals and a touch of wild strawberry. A very smooth, harmonious palate with slightly less acidity than I anticipated. Very fruit-driven - it reminds me of the 1993. Understated, reserved finish. It has the balance to last a number of years. Excellent. Tasted again in Jan-06. The nose is more minerally this time, with that fruit aroma replaced by a more steely one and green apples. Very harmonious and reserved on the palate with apples, citrus fruits and a lovely creamy texture. This is only just beginning to open up." Neal Martin, 2006

Medium straw, with a powerful mousse. Dense and earthy on the nose, with strong toasty and buttery tones layered on ripe apple and pear fruit. This is both very '95 in a positive sense and very Pol Roger. Fat and round in the mouth, with extravagant flavors of buttered toast, ripe orange and poached pear, complemented by subtle notes of cinnamon and mace. A lush, velvety Champagne that completely fills the mouth with flavor and creamy texture. This would go wonderfully with absolutely anything-or on its own. Josh Raynolds1st November 2005

Founded in Épernay in 1849, this celebrated family run Champagne house has vineyards spanning 92 hectares that are situated in prime sites in the Vallée d'Épernay, the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. Named after the founder, Pol Roger was the son of a lawyer who started his career as a wine wholesaler. The house he founded and the Champagnes he produced went on to receive the imperial and royal warrants of the Austro-Hungarian court. Today, Pol Roger is one of just a few Champagne houses to have been awarded the

Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill was launched in 1984 as the house's Prestige cuvée. Created in homage to Sir Winston Churchill, a lifelong lover of the Champagne House, the cuvée's style emulates the qualities that he preferred - robustness, a full-bodied character and relative maturity.
