This is a vintage that is tasting great right now, and I definitely suggest getting out any bottles that you have and starting to explore them. Plenty of concentrated cassis and blackberry fruits, waves of fresh mint leaf and eucalyptus on the finish, tannins that are beginning to fully melt into the structure but still confidently holding everything in place. This is juicy and enjoyable. 80% new oak. Jean-Rene Matignon technical director.Jane Anson22nd December 2021

The 2004 Pichon Baron is consistent with my previous tasting notes. With wild strawberry and blackberry on the nose, this opens confidently, displaying more incense and menthol than I noticed in the past. The palate is medium-bodied with a peppery entry. It's briny like before, cohesive and has impressive depth, considering the vintage. This comes recommended. Neal Martin6th June 2024

Chateau Pichon Baron
A Super Second Classed Growth
Château Pichon Baron is celebrated for its Grand Vin, a Pauillac Second Growth which comes from the oldest vines grown on the historic plots of the estate. A beautiful red, displaying a superb black fruit profile with spicy hints. Château Pichon Baron shows great elegance, intensity and exceptional length on the palate. A well-balanced blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The Château also produces two second wines, the Cabernet-focused Les Griffons de Pichon Longueville and the Merlot-dominant Les Tourelles de Pichon Longueville. The 73 hectare estate is planted to 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
