Located on a high section of the famous Pomerol plateau, Château Petit-Village is a distinguished wine estate which was acquired by the Moulin family in 2020. Its vineyard area stretches over approximately 10 hectares in a single plot, shaped like an equilateral triangle. The soil consists of red gravel made up of quartz and flint, on a clay subsoil. This release is the 2000 vintage of its flagship wine, a blend composed of 75% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc. On the nose, expect crushed red berries, truffle, earthy and mineral notes. The palate is perfectly fresh and lively after more than 20 years in bottle.

Good medium red-ruby. Aromas of blackberry, minerals, coffee and spices; at once cool and liqueur-like. Lush, chewy, sweet and deep, with vibrant flavors of black cherry and chocolate. Finishes with firm tannins and very good length and grip. Showing very well. — Stephen Tanzer, 1st May 2003

The 2000 Château Petit Village does not appear to be evolving as well as I initially hoped. Here, two bottles opened, offering lifted dark cherry intermixed with beef stock and soot, secondary aromas playing a bigger part than I would have expected. The palate is likewise quite rustic but with admirable depth, supple in the mouth with cedar and earthy notes on the foursquare finish. Given the choice of the 2000 or the 2001, I would probably now opt for the latter. Tasted January 2016. — Neal Martin, 29th July 2016

Looks quite an evolved mid brick colour. Odd 'warmed liquorice' notes on the nose – apparently fully resolved but by no means unpleasant – rather comforting. Sweet start, pretty light-bodied. Slightly rusty tannins on the finish – leaves one with a furry impression. Not the purest or freshest of fruit. Competent without being thrilling. (JR) — Jancis Robinson, 18th March 2010
