The Peter Michael Point Rouge Chardonnay 2008 emerges from the Knights Valley AVA in Sonoma County, known for its unique terroir. This limited-production wine represents a meticulous selection of the finest barrels from prime estate vineyards, which include Belle Côte and La Carrière. The winemaking process utilises 100% natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels, with a significant portion being new. Extended sur lie aging, accompanied by bâtonnage, results in a wine showcasing a nuanced balance of ripe fruit, mineral notes and a structure conducive to longevity.

Vivid gold. Deeper, smokier and more perfumed than the Indigene, displaying strong mineral, spice and orange pith aromas that gain strength with aeration. Spicy, impressively penetrating citrus and floral flavors are complemented by an exotic, faintly musky note of mace and pick up anise and iodine nuances on the back half. Very rich but almost shockingly lithe, finishing with superb clarity and lingering spiciness.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2010

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
