Peter Michael Point Rouge Chardonnay 2005 is the result of meticulous selection from prime vineyard sites within the Knights Valley AVA of Sonoma County, California. This wine is crafted exclusively from the finest barrels of Peter Michael`s estate-grown Chardonnay, reflecting the specific characteristics of the vintage. Winemaking involves natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels, including a notable proportion of new oak, followed by extended ageing sur lie with bâtonnage. Known for its rich flavour profile, this Chardonnay showcases notes of ripe fruit, citrus and subtle mineral undertones.

Hazy gold. Deep, resiny and pungent on the nose, with intense pear and Meyer lemon aromas given complexity by iodine and licorice, and picking up an exotic cherry pit quality with air. Focused and impressively pure, with vibrant citrus peel and mineral tones. Builds and deepens with air, showing a jaw-dropping depth charge of citrus, peach and melon flavors on the energetic finish. This is not meant to be the most concentrated wine, but the most complex, said Nic Morlet, adding that the average yield for this selection in '05 was just one ton per acre.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2007

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
