The 2001 Peter Michael Point Rouge Chardonnay is a notable Californian white, hailing from Sonoma County. This wine showcases aromas of fresh orchard fruits, subtle oak and a hint of mineral undertones. On the palate, it reveals a structured profile with a balance of richness and acidity, presenting a long, focused finish. Peter Michael Winery, established by Sir Peter Michael in 1980, is committed to crafting wines reflective of their mountain vineyard origins, utilising grapes sourced from their high-elevation Knights Valley Ranch.

There will be a relatively abundant quantity of 2001 Chardonnay Point Rouge . A light green/gold color is followed by aromas of roasted hazelnuts intermixed with honeysuckle, orange skin, and sweet citrus. This expansive, powerful, packed wine boasts loads of flavor, zesty underlying acidity as well as definition, and fabulous purity and length. This profound Chardonnay can compete with the finest grand cru white Burgundies ... and then some! It should drink well for a decade or more. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Tight but ultimately complex nose combines orange juice and orange peel, apricot, wet stone, lichee and a wild smoked bacon character. Wonderfully chewy and layered wine that conveys a strong impression of solidity. Dense, sweet and minerally, with almost painful intensity. With aeration, this showed a wonderfully lush, round middle palate and great richness. A silky, seamless chardonnay with great subtle persistence. There was no Point Rouge made in 2000.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2003

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
