Peter Michael Point Rouge Chardonnay 1997 presents a complex profile reflecting its origins in the mountainous vineyards of Sonoma County. This vintage reveals a rich texture alongside prominent notes of ripe peach, citrus and subtle hints of minerality. The wine demonstrates the influence of oak ageing, with underlying toasty elements that enhance its depth. Winemaker Peter Michael founded his winery in 1980, committed to producing high-quality wines from meticulously farmed vineyards.
98 Robert Parker
The 1997 Chardonnay Point Rouge exhibits a terrific texture, and a sensational buttery, leesy nose with subtle toasty oak. Passion fruit, oranges, and honeyed lemons compete with minerals in this exceptionally rich, concentrated Chardonnay. A spectacular, full-throttle effort with impeccable balance, it should drink well for 4-5+ years. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Initially rather mute on the nose, but opened to show dried fruits, tangerine, pineapple and nutmeg. Thick and very rich; gives a slightly sweeter impression than the above. Boasts an extraordinarily layered texture. Finishes dusty and quite dry, with a strong mineral quality.Stephen Tanzer1st May 1999

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
