The Peter Michael Mon Plaisir Chardonnay 2016 is a notable expression of a single-vineyard white wine sourced exclusively from the Mon Plaisir vineyard in Sonoma County`s Knights Valley AVA. This high-elevation site, characterised by volcanic soils, benefits from significant sun exposure. The winemaking process adheres to Burgundian practices, involving hand-harvesting and whole-cluster pressing, followed by fermentation with native yeasts in French oak barrels. Aged sur lie with regular bâtonnage, the wine presents a profile of ripe orchard fruits, citrus notes and a subtle minerality. Peter Michael Winery is renowned for its pioneering efforts in producing premium wines in California.

The 2016 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir is suave, supple and engaging, with fabulous interplay of texture, aromatics and depth. Apricot, orange peel, chamomile and lightly honeyed notes abound. Mon Plaisir is dense and oily, but that natural opulence is tempered by the freshness of the vintage. What a gorgeous wine this is.Antonio Galloni1st July 2018

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
