Peter Michael Ma Belle-Fille Chardonnay 2004 is a multi-layered white wine from the Peter Michael winery’s highest-altitude vineyard in Knights Valley. The 2004 vintage produced a wine of immense concentration and textural depth, a result of 100% barrel fermentation and 12 months of lees ageing with weekly batonnage. This vineyard is named in honour of Emily Michael, Sir Peter’s daughter-in-law, and its unique terroir imparts a distinctive tropical flower perfume and spicy undertones. Now fully mature, it represents a benchmark for high-altitude California Chardonnay, offering a long and sophisticated finish that has gained profound savoury complexity.

Bright, pale yellow-green color. Deeply pitched nose offers apricot and tropical fruits, complicated by flint, smoke and flowers. Big, rich and mouthfilling; thick but not heavy. Boasts superb sweetness of fruit and a seamless, round texture. Finishes with considerable power, outstanding length and a subtle smoky minerality.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2006

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
