Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision. "to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil". Consistency and quality are the principles here – the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can`t help expressing an edge of Californian richness.

La Carriere, French for the Quarry reflects the vineyards “spoon shape” and rocky soils. It lies at 366 and 518 meters above sea level on steep mountain slopes. The vineyard is known for it’s “liquid minerality”

The 2009 season was a perfect as you can get, resulting in wines with impressive length and concentration promising excellent ageing potential. The wine shows notes of pear, sweet vanilla and hazelnut, with its signature minerality showing elegance and finesse.

93 Vinous
Hazy greenish gold. Spicy, leesy, smoky aromas of lemon pith, melon and hazelnut. Velvety and concentrated, with emphatic lemony cut to the flavors of pit fruits and honeydew. Silky and seamless, with excellent finishing clarity and mineral-driven persistence. This elegant wine will be even better in a couple of years.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2011

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
