‘L`Après-Midi’ is a superb Sauvignon Blanc from the esteemed Peter Michael Winery in Sonoma County. Inspired by the classic wines of Bordeaux, it is often blended with a small percentage of Sémillon to enhance its complexity and texture. L`Après-Midi presents a vibrant nose of grapefruit, passion fruit and fresh-cut grass, with hints of white flowers and flinty minerality. The palate is crisp and lively, boasting citrus, green apple, and a touch of tropical fruit, supported by a well-balanced acidity that provides a refreshing and lasting finish. The wine is presented here in a magnum format.

The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc L'Après-Midi is an airy, elegant wine. Hints of sage, dried pear, mint and lemon peel open nicely with a bit of coaxing. This is an especially reticent vintage for L'Après-Midi, but the 2021 is a serious wine that just needs cellaring. I would give this a year or two in bottle at a minimum. The natural intensity of this low-yielding vintage is very much in evidence.Antonio Galloni1st August 2023

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
