Peter Michael L`Après-Midi Sauvignon Blanc 2016 emerges from the esteemed Peter Michael Winery, situated in the Knights Valley AVA of Sonoma County, California, known for its commitment to small-scale, high-quality wine production. This blend, primarily consisting of Sauvignon Blanc complemented by Sémillon, embodies the distinct terroir of the region. The 2016 vintage benefited from optimal weather, leading to well-ripened grapes. Crafted through 100% barrel fermentation with native yeasts, it undergoes aging on its lees in neutral French oak barrels for eight months, maintaining a crisp profile marked by citrus and mineral notes.

The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc L'Après-Midi is bright, focused and nuanced, with plenty of lime, quince, sage, mint and almond character. Vivid and yet also light on its feet, the 2016 is a very pretty wine that will only benefit from another year or two in bottle. This, too, is very nicely done.

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
