Peter Michael L’Après-Midi 2012 is a Sauvignon Blanc from the Knights Valley in Sonoma County. This wine is produced from estate-grown fruit planted on steep, volcanic slopes and includes a small proportion of Sémillon. It features scents of jasmine, Meyer lemon, passion fruit and toasted brioche, while the palate is rich and creamy due to sur lie ageing, yet punctuated by a flinty mineral streak. The volcanic soil provides a distinct structure that supports the aromatic lift of the fruit.

The 2012 Sauvignon Blanc L’Apres Midi is a 2,400-case blend of 95% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Semillon that, like its siblings, spent eight months in barrel, of which 10% was new. It is a flamboyant, delicious, fig, melon and dried apricot-scented white loaded with fruit and reveals a hint of minerality. It should provide plenty of pleasure over the next 3-4 years. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

(95% sauvignon blanc and 5% semillon): Pale, green-tinged yellow. Musky lemon pith, fresh herbs and white flowers on the nose, with complicating notes of agave and chalky minerals. Taut and incisive, offering vibrant citrus fruit, quince and deeper melon flavors braced by tangy acidity. Plays power off of vivacity smoothly and finishes dry, nervy and very long, leaving a honeysuckle note behind.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2014

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
