Peter Michael Cuvée Indigène Chardonnay 2014 is a distinguished barrel-selected white wine from the Knights Valley AVA in Sonoma County. This Chardonnay is crafted from meticulously chosen barrels across the estate`s vineyards, including Belle Côte and Ma Belle-Fille, primarily featuring the Old Wente clone. Notably, the vineyard embraces 100% natural fermentation using indigenous yeasts, a hallmark of Peter Michael Winery’s philosophy. The wine undergoes fermentation and an extended ageing process in new French oak barrels, frequently stirred to enhance complexity. This approach results in a wine with a nuanced aromatic profile encompassing citrus, stone fruit and mineral notes.

One of the most reticent wines in this lineup, the 2014 Chardonnay Cuvée Indigène is powerful and tightly wound to the core. It will need at least a few years to truly come together. Even at this early stage, the Cuvée Indigène offers a compelling interplay. Offers a striking combination of power, minerality and overall intensity. The Indigène has a lot to say, but readers will have to be patient here. The Cuvée is a selection of the oldest Wente clones on the property. Antonio Galloni1st August 2016

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
