The Peter Michael Cuvée Indigène Chardonnay 2010 is a notable expression from the Knights Valley AVA, crafted exclusively from select estate vineyard barrels. This vintage showcases a commitment to traditional winemaking, relying on native yeast fermentation. The wine undergoes an extended ageing process, typically lasting 16 months or more, in 100% new French oak barrels, combined with regular bâtonnage. The resulting profile includes nuanced aromas of citrus fruits and subtle warm spices, underpinned by a streak of minerality and bright acidity. Peter Michael Winery, established in 1987, is acclaimed for its meticulous vineyard practices and dedication to terroir.

In 2010, the Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene stands out for its exotic bouquet. Passion fruit, lychee, nectarine, wild flowers and peaches are some of many notes that come alive in the glass. Surprisingly weightless for a Peter Michael Chardonnay, the Cuvee Indigene impresses for its balance and superb sense of proportion. In 2010 the Cuvee Indigene is a model of purity and elegance. Even better, it should enjoy a broad window of drinkability. Antonio Galloni1st July 2013

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
