The Peter Michael Cœur à Cœur Sauvignon Blanc/Sémillon 2008 is a limited-production white wine from Peter Michael Winery, nestled in the Knights Valley AVA of Sonoma County, California. This unique blend is typically composed of an equal (50/50) proportion of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, with grapes sourced from the estate`s high-elevation vineyards which benefit from unique volcanic soils and a distinctive microclimate. Peter Michael`s winemaking for Cœur à Cœur involves whole-cluster pressing, 100% natural barrel fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and extended aging sur lie without malolactic fermentation to preserve its vibrant and zesty character.

(a 50/50 blend of sauvignon blanc and semillon) Bright gold. Pungent aromas of mango, melon, candied lemon and fresh herbs, with a smoky, leesy undertone. Dense and sappy but also energetic, with a chewy, tactile quality and a smoky element to the flavors of citrus and pit fruits, herbs and spices. Shows plenty of palate presence, with little obtrusive oak to get in the way of the fruit and spice tones. Finishes broad, ripe and fresh, with very good cut and persistence. Morlet told me that these vines were limited to a single grape cluster per shoot; there are just 100 cases of this wine to go around.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2010

Inspired by the Médoc and Côte d'Or

Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision - to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil. The winery currently produce around fifteen wines using four varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Consistency and quality are the watchwords here - the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can't help expressing an edge of Californian excess - ripe fruit abounds on the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the Cabernet Sauvignons have a density and concentration that many Bordelais would envy.
