Château Pavie Macquin 2000 is a notable red wine from the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé region of Bordeaux`s Right Bank. The blend features Merlot as the primary variety, supported by Cabernet Franc and smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard, situated on the limestone plateau, benefits from optimal drainage and exposure to sunlight, influencing the wine`s characteristics. Under the leadership of Nicolas Thienpont, Château Pavie Macquin adopted biodynamic practices, focusing on fruit purity and careful oak integration. The 2000 vintage displays a complex profile with notes of ripe black fruits, plum and earthy elements.
Vinous
The 2000 Pavie Macquin is a vintage that I had not encountered for many years. The clean nose features red cherry and light balsamic scents, although it lacks complexity for the vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy, slightly rigid tannins, quite a lot of soy and a rather short, ferrous finish. This ought to be better considering the growing season, and it comes across way too exotic.
