Opus One 2007 is a Napa Bordeaux-style blend and a stand-out vintage from this esteemed producer. The nose reveals an intricate bouquet featuring notes of violets, clove and leather, underscored by aromas of cassis and dark cherries. On the palate, the wine exhibits a full-bodied structure with layers of black fruit, complemented by firm yet refined tannins and a precise acidity. This vintage marked the first year that all Petit Verdot was co-fermented with the Cabernet Sauvignon. Opus One is a noteworthy collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, blending meticulous Californian craftsmanship with Bordeaux tradition.
98 Jane Anson
One of the vintages of the decade, and this remains luscious, concentrated, easy to fall in love with. Incense, sandalwood, cocoa bean, cigar box, crushed mint, olive tapenade, graphite, pencil lead, sea spray, classic Cabernet Sauvignon check boxes, real kick of spice on the finish, stretches out with great tannic arcitecture and a cushion of fresh acidities. Trace of heat on the finish, takes it in its stride, generous but measured. 100% new French oak for ageing, 20 days skin contact, Michael Silacci winemaker.Jane Anson26th June 2025
95 Jancis Robinson
Two of the strongest wines ever made at Opus One, the 2007 has terrific black currant fruit, licorice, incense, and subtle smoke, an opulent, even voluptuous mouthfeel, dazzling purity and texture, and a skyscraper-like mouthfeel. This is a sensational Opus One, with sweet tannin and impressive precision and depth. It can be drunk now or cellared for 25+ years.

(14.8% alcohol): Fresh red-ruby color. Medicinal kirsch and spices on the nose, plus a suggestion of rose. Wonderfully sweet and seamless but given shape and definition by lovely floral lift and firm acidity. There's something old school about this beauty, which has lost some of its baby fat while retaining its primary fruit character. Finishes with substantial tongue-dusting tannins and a repeating element of dried flowers. Still young but delicious right now.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2017

A First Growth in Napa

Known as NapaMedoc for the first three vintages and rebranded in 1982 as Opus One, this iconic Californian winery was founded as a joint venture between Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi. The objective was to recreate a First Growth level, Bordeaux style wine in the Napa Valley and by every measure, they succeeded. The Grand Vin is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot and is aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak before being laid down for a further 18 months to mature in bottle. Since 1993, they have produced a second wine, Overture.

The winemaker is Micheal Silacci who apprenticed under legendary Napa winemakers Andre Tchelistcheff and Warren Winiarski and previously held positions at Beaulieu Vineyard and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars.
